NEW YORK, Sept. 16, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Jiangsu Broadcasting Corporation (JSBC) is presenting a new Sino-U.S. co-produced documentary Two Coasts, One Climate, which explores environmental protection, the clean energy transition, and climate action in Jiangsu Province, China, and California, USA. The 50-minute documentary will premiere on Travelxp, SKY TV Channel 178 in the UK, beginning September 9, 2026.
Presented entirely in English, the documentary is directed and written by American conservation photographer and environmentalist Kyle Obermann.
Across Two Coasts, One Shared Climate Mission
Jiangsu and California lie on opposite sides of the Pacific and share similar latitudes and geographic characteristics. Both are economically developed regions with a strong commitment to green development.
Taking a trans-Pacific perspective, Two Coasts, One Climate documents the two regions’ efforts to advance the green transition while highlighting the ways in which their experiences and approaches can complement one another.
The documentary explores six key areas, showcasing practical, locally tailored approaches to environmental and climate action:
- Ecosystem Conservation: The red-crowned crane and Père David’s deer habitats in Yancheng, Jiangsu, and the elephant seal colonies along California’s Central Coast.
- Wind and Solar Power: Offshore wind farms along the Jiangsu coast and “fishery-solar hybrid” projects in Lianyungang, alongside wind farms and solar ranches in California’s mountainous regions.
- Energy Storage: A photovoltaic power station in Nantong, integrated solar-storage-charging bus stations in Changzhou, the pumped-storage hydropower station in Liyang, gravity-based energy storage in Rudong, and residential rooftop solar power in California.
- Hydrogen Energy: The industrial hydrogen demonstration zone in Zhangjiagang, hydrogen-powered bicycles in Changzhou, and hydrogen-powered vehicles in San Francisco.
- Carbon Capture and Storage: A major coal-fired power carbon-capture project in Taizhou and a project in Lianyungang that converts captured carbon dioxide into green methanol.
- Ecological Restoration: The transformation of a former mining site in Yixing into a public park, the conversion of aquaculture areas back into wetlands in Dongtai, Yancheng, and ecological restoration efforts in the San Francisco Bay Area.
A Crane Named “California”
The documentary concludes where it began—with the red-crowned crane and Père David’s deer habitats in Yancheng.
When California Governor Gavin Newsom visited Yancheng, Jiangsu, a red-crowned crane accompanied him and the visiting group along the way. He named the crane “California.”
The moment serves as a fitting symbol for the documentary’s central message: No single region, system, or culture has all the answers. But by working together, we can piece together new pathways toward a shared future.
