North Texas firms transform canned goods into art to raise meals and awareness for families facing hunger.

Dallas, TX, Aug. 31, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — CANstruction Dallas returns to NorthPark Center this year, bringing back the beloved design‑and‑build competition that benefits the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB). The exhibit opened Saturday, August 29, and will remain on display through Sunday, September 13, inviting visitors to experience one of North Texas’ most imaginative hunger‑fighting traditions.
This year’s showcase features 26 large‑scale structures inspired by “A League of UnCANny Villains”, each crafted entirely from canned foods and other shelf‑stable items. Teams from local architecture, engineering, design, and construction firms will transform thousands of cans into eye‑catching works of art—demonstrating both technical skill and a shared commitment to helping neighbors facing hunger.

Over nearly three decades, CANstruction Dallas has generated millions of cans of food for NTFB’s feeding network of more than 500 food pantries and community organizations. The need remains significant as many North Texans continue to navigate economic challenges and rising food costs.
Visitors to NorthPark Center can participate by voting for their favorite structure. Each $5 donation cast as a vote at www.ntfb.org/canstruction helps provide access to 15 nutritious meals for neighbors in need.
Last year’s competition raised nearly $28,000 and collected more than 117,000 pounds of canned goods, providing more than 180,000 meals for North Texas neighbors. Past displays have included everything from video game icons to global landmarks, and last year’s sci-fi‑themed creations included Wall-E, Neo from The Matrix, an alien from Toy Story, and more.
The annual CANstruction Dallas competition continues the tradition of blending artistry, engineering, and community spirit to help fight hunger in North Texas.
