OTTAWA, Ontario and WASHINGTON, Sept. 21, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Operation Lifesaver Canada (OL Canada) and partners across the country will mark Rail Safety Week, September 21 to 27, with There’s no Undo Button, a national campaign focused on rail safety education, safe behaviours around railway tracks and crossings, and the irreversible consequences of unsafe decisions around railway tracks and crossings.
Throughout the week, Canada’s railways, police services and first responders, municipalities, community organizations, Rail Safety Ambassadors and other partners will bring the campaign to communities across the country through events, outreach and education.
“Rail Safety Week is an opportunity to get Canadians talking about rail safety,” said Chloé Devine Drouin, Director, Marketing and Engagement, Operation Lifesaver Canada. “For 45 years, Operation Lifesaver Canada has worked alongside partners and communities across the country to share knowledge that can save lives. This week is about building on that work, reaching people where they are and making rail safety a conversation that continues long after Rail Safety Week ends.”
In the United States, Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (OLI) will mark the 10th anniversary of See Tracks? Think Train® Week from September 21 to 27. While each country has its own campaign themes and programming, OL Canada and OLI share a commitment to advancing rail safety education across North America.

2026 Rail Safety Week Themes in Canada:
- Monday, September 21 – #STOPTrackTragedies: Sharing stories from people personally impacted by crossing and trespassing incidents to highlight their lasting impact.
- Tuesday, September 22 – Operation Clear Track: Police, first responders and railway partners promoting rail-safe behaviours across North America.
- Wednesday, September 23 – Crossing Safety: Look. Listen. Live.: Reinforcing safe behaviours for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists at railway crossings.
- Thursday, September 24 – Building a Culture of Rail Safety: Highlighting the people, partnerships and communities helping keep rail safety top of mind.
- Friday, September 25 – Mental Health and Community Support Raising awareness of mental health, suicide prevention and available supports.
- Saturday, September 26 – Trespass Prevention: Reinforcing the risks of using railway tracks and property as shortcuts or recreational spaces.
- Sunday, September 27 – Responsible Railfanning: Encouraging railfans and content creators to enjoy and document railways from a safe location.
Canadians are encouraged to use Rail Safety Week as an opportunity to learn about rail safety, talk about it with family and friends and share that knowledge within their communities.
