Set in the high desert outside Santa Fe, the new camp offers a distinctive way to experience one of the Southwest’s most celebrated cultural destinations, with reservations for the 2027 season now available

DENVER, Sept. 15, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Today, Under Canvas, the leader in upscale, outdoor hospitality, announced that Under Canvas Santa Fe will open in April of 2027, marking the brand’s first location in New Mexico and its 18th property within the portfolio. Set across 640 acres of rolling high desert outside Santa Fe, the new camp offers a richly immersive way to experience the region—blending the city’s celebrated art, culture and cuisine with sweeping landscapes, outdoor adventure and vast open skies. The debut of Under Canvas Santa Fe also marks several firsts for the brand: the introduction of saunas, a dedicated event tent and cabins alongside its signature canvas tents – all designed to complement the high-desert landscape and elevate the guest experience.

At 6,321 feet in elevation and adjacent to the nearly 10,000-acre Galisteo Basin Preserve, Under Canvas Santa Fe offers nearby access to more than 44 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. Thirty minutes from the Santa Fe Plaza, the camp places guests within easy reach of the city’s galleries, studios, markets and acclaimed New Mexican cuisine while offering an immersive high-desert retreat at the end of the day.

“Santa Fe is one of the great American destinations, a place where art, culture and cuisine are deeply connected to the landscape,” said Noah Brodsky, CEO of Under Canvas. “We’re excited to bring our signature outdoor experience to New Mexico and create a new way for guests to experience this remarkable region, from exploring the trails of the Galisteo Basin and discovering Santa Fe’s galleries and culinary scene to gathering around the fire beneath the open night sky.”

ACCOMMODATIONS
Guests will arrive at hilltop communal spaces with sweeping high-desert views. Forty-five safari-inspired canvas tents, with cabins forthcoming, will span three distinct settings, from an upper terrace near the lobby to a juniper-covered middle slope and lower meadow. The cabins will be a first for Under Canvas, designed for guests looking for a contemporary, temperature-controlled experience while remaining connected to the landscape.
Each tent will feature:

  • Private deck
  • En suite bathroom
  • King-size bed with luxe linens
  • Traditional Under Canvas wood-burning stove
  • In-tent cooling

Accommodations will cater to everyone from couples to families and small groups, with the debut cabins and three signature tent types—a Deluxe, the Stargazer, with sky-viewing windows above the bed, and Suites. Select tents will offer the option to reserve an adjacent Kids Tent with two twin beds, while unique two-tent suites will feature adjoining decks for added space and privacy. Design throughout the camp will draw from the region’s landscape and creative heritage, incorporating rich woods, wrought iron, earth- and clay-toned textiles and work from local artisans.

DINING, PROGRAMMING & OUTDOOR ADVENTURE
The camp will offer seasonal café-style dining inspired by regional flavors and complimentary activities including live music, yoga, family programming, and nightly s’mores. Guest Experience Coordinators will help guests plan outdoor adventures and cultural excursions, from hiking and rafting to exploring Santa Fe’s galleries and historic sites, while onsite hiking and biking trails and collaborations with local artists offer additional ways to connect with the destination. New to Under Canvas, onsite saunas will give guests another way to unwind after a day spent exploring the high desert.

GROUPS & EVENTS
A dedicated event tent and adjoining open-air deck will anchor group gatherings, with on-site catering and the Galisteo Basin as a backdrop.

  • Event tent: 70’ tent; 1,885 square feet
  • Event deck: 1,605 square feet
  • Seated capacity: 80 guests
  • Reception capacity: ~130 guests
  • Full camp buyout: 45 tents, up to 130 guests

Groups will gather in places most venues can’t reach. Wedding parties can hold a ceremony on the deck and dinner in the event tent before returning to their own canvas tents, while corporate retreats will pair meeting space with 44 miles of adjacent trails, Guest Experience Coordinators to plan the day and communal firepits where the conversation keeps going after the agenda ends. Thirty minutes from the Santa Fe Plaza, groups can spend the day among the city’s galleries and restaurants and the night under night skies — no screens, no light pollution, nowhere else to be.

MINDFUL APPROACH
Under Canvas Santa Fe will continue the brand’s longstanding commitment to preserving the night sky, with design and outdoor lighting guided by DarkSky International’s principles and standards to minimize impact on the surrounding high-desert environment. The camp will also embody Under Canvas’ Mindful Approach through minimal land disturbance, thoughtful design and a lighter environmental footprint, including recycled and durable furnishings, pull-chain showers, low-flow toilets and rechargeable battery packs.
