Thanks to the component crisis, it’s a bad time to want a new computer. But if you are waiting on a preorder for the Framework Laptop 13 Pro — which Framework’s CEO has called the “MacBook Pro for Linux users” — the company shared good news on Thursday that might mean yours will cost less than you expected. The company announced that it has secured cheaper new PCIe Gen 5 SSDs from its supplier, Adata, and if you had put in an order for a configuration with a 500GB SSD, you’ll now get a 1TB SSD at a lower price. Framework also said you can also now order configurations with the new 1TB or 2TB SSDs onboard, though I’m not seeing them in the DIY configurator yet.

But Framework has some bad news, too. The company says that it has “gotten signals that CPU pricing will be increasing soon,” so it expects that it will have to “adjust the overall system price on Framework Laptop 13 Pro in the coming weeks for new orders.” Not a great sign for the component crisis, which has already led to major price increases across tech hardware, including some also announced on Thursday for Apple devices and Xbox consoles.

Framework initially announced the Laptop 13 Pro in April and originally planned to ship the first units in June. The company recently delayed those initial shipments to July due to issues with the laptop’s haptic touchpad and its custom display.
