The Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation has raised a record breaking $2.7 million through the Grow on Windsor Campaign – with the funds earmarked to purchase the DaVinci Xi Surgical Robot for the centre.
The robot replaces a previous DaVinci robot, which has performed robotic procedures on local cancer patients for over a decade.
The DaVinci robot is used to perform minimally invasive surgeries on prostate and kidney cancer patients.
“The DaVinci Xi represents the type of cutting-edge medical technology that this community wants and deserves. People can stay here to get treatment with confidence knowing that they are getting the very best care close to home. This is also what we need to attract the best and brightest medical professionals. This is the way of the future,” said Dr. Sindu Kanjeekal, Chief of Oncology.
The robot has been lauded as a ‘gamechanger’ for cancer care, resulting in shorter hospital stays, faster recovery, improved survival rates, and a reduction in organ trauma.
