About California Guitar Trio
California Guitar Trio was formed in Los Angeles in 1991 by guitarists Paul Richards, Bert Lams and Hideyo Moriya after the musicians met through Robert Fripp’s Guitar Craft program. The experience helped shape the ensemble playing and musical experimentation that have remained central to the group throughout its 35-year career.
Today, Richards and Lams are joined by Chapman Stick player Tom Griesgraber, whose instrument adds bass textures, layering and an expanded sonic range to the trio’s sound. Together, the musicians continue California Guitar Trio’s approach to instrumental music, moving between original compositions and a repertoire influenced by progressive rock, classical, jazz, world and surf music, along with the occasional spaghetti Western.
