CINCINNATI, Sept. 08, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Donations made today and tomorrow to the Scripps Howard Fund’s “If You Give a Child a Book …” campaign will go twice as far. The Fund will double the first $200,000 in donations received from Sept. 8-9 to the 10th annual childhood literacy initiative, which provides free books to children in low-income schools across the United States.
A $12 donation during the two-day match will provide four books instead of two.
Donate today: Make a difference and double your impact.
The “If You Give a Child a Book …” campaign is supported by The E.W. Scripps Company (NASDAQ: SSP), Scripps employees, the communities the company serves and Scripps and Howard family members. The campaign aims to reach underserved children by distributing free books to students who are still developing their reading skills and building confidence as independent readers.
During the 2026-2027 school year, the campaign expects to distribute its 2 millionth book since launching in 2016, marking a major milestone in the Fund’s commitment to childhood literacy and local community impact.
“As we celebrate a decade of the ‘If You Give a Child a Book …’ campaign, we’re grateful for the caring donors and communities that have helped put books into the hands of children who need them most,” said Carrie High, senior director of philanthropic strategies for the Scripps Howard Fund. “Every gift helps a child build a home library of their own, opening the door to greater confidence, a lifelong love of reading and all the possibilities that books can inspire.”
Watch: Why book choice matters for young readers.
The Fund sponsors free Scholastic Book Fairs for partner Title I schools across the country. Students are given the opportunity to choose their own age-appropriate books to take home and build their personal libraries. These free book fairs occur throughout the school year, with the goal of ensuring that every student in the low-income schools the Fund supports receives 10 books annually.
