Velian x AMPECO
The Dutch operator runs one of the country’s largest AC charging networks and finances it itself. It is consolidating onto AMPECO and taking direct control of its roaming, its connectivity, and its customer relationships.
Dordrecht, The Netherlands – September 17, 2026 – Velian, which operates over 33,000 charge points across the Netherlands, has partnered with AMPECO to run a core and growing share of its charging network. The AMPECO platform will run Velian’s charging business across their B2B customers and public charging, including networks in the Rotterdam area, Amsterdam area, Utrecht, Groningen and Drenthe. The network runs on AC charging, which Velian finances and operates under a DBFMO (Design, Build, Finance, Maintain, Operate) model. Velian’s position is that AC will remain the operational backbone of everyday charging rather than a stepping stone to fast DC. The platform decision is as much about control as it is about software. Alongside the platform move, Velian is bringing roaming, connectivity, and B2B invoicing in-house.
Velian has built and operated public and private charging networks in the Netherlands for more than 14 years. It finances the infrastructure so its partners do not have to, and holds itself to above 99% uptime. It serves three segments: public charging networks, real estate and logistics. Before choosing a platform, the company assessed every major Charge Point Management System (CPMS) vendor and weighed building parts of the stack in-house on open-source technology. Four requirements decided it: control over its own infrastructure, an API-first architecture, strong security, and a dedicated environment rather than a shared one.

The fit starts with AMPECO’s business model. AMPECO works exclusively with charging network operators. It does not run charging networks, sell hardware, or operate as an e-mobility service provider, and it takes no share of driver-facing transactions. Nothing sits between Velian and its customers, and nothing AMPECO sells competes with what Velian is building. The platform is white-label throughout, so drivers, partners, and site hosts meet Velian’s brand rather than a vendor’s, and whatever the company develops on the AMPECO platform stays theirs.
On AMPECO, Velian runs on a dedicated single-tenant instance: its own compute, storage, and networking, isolated from other customers’ workloads, with its own security configuration and deployment windows. The platform supports 200+ hardware vendor brands and 400+ charge point models. Velian chooses its own hardware, payment processors, and roaming partners, not the ones a platform allows.
“What stood out to us was AMPECO’s API-first architecture and that we can have our dedicated platform,” said Danny Post, Product Owner at Velian. “It means we’re not locked into one way of working. We can integrate the hardware, payment providers, and tariff structures our network actually needs, instead of bending our processes around the platform.”
The same principle governs roaming. AMPECO supports all three approaches: self-managed, managed, and hybrid. Roaming strategy stays a commercial choice, not something the software decides for the operator. Velian is moving off managed roaming and will run its agreements directly, with oversight from its own roaming manager. AMPECO provides the session and Open Charge Point Interface (OCPI) tooling, and its integration team supports the transition. Owning the agreements means Velian sets its own commercial terms, chooses which operators it connects to, and renegotiates on its own timing.
That control runs through to what drivers pay. Velian has committed publicly to clear, predictable pricing, arguing that drivers should understand the cost of a session before they start it. The platform is what makes that commitment operational. Velian sets its own tariffs, and AMPECO adds no transaction fees or markups of its own. The price a driver sees is the price Velian set.
“The Dutch market sets a high bar: municipal concessions, strict service levels, and drivers who notice the moment something doesn’t work,” said Orlin Radev, CEO of AMPECO. “Velian has operated to that standard for 14 years, and it wants to own more of its business, not less: its brand, its roaming, its customer relationships. Our role is to carry the platform layer so operators like Velian can put their energy into the network, their partners, and the drivers who use it.”
Velian is leading the migration with its own team, drawing on in-house experience with charger transitions and supported by AMPECO on integration. A first group of B2B customers went live in July; public chargers across Groningen and Drenthe are following, and Amsterdam and Utrecht are planned towards the end of the year.

Well over half of those arrived via migration, from in-house builds and every major CPMS, using a proxy-based approach that keeps chargers running through the cutover.
