The tempestuous weather that descended on southern B.C. Monday afternoon will linger for the next few days, with a storm forecast for Christmas Day.
According to Environment Canada, warnings remain in place for Metro Vancouver, the Southern Gulf Islands, the Sunshine Coast and parts of Vancouver Island.
The weather agency said the low pressure centre that issued strong winds Monday evening is moving its way north, bringing the gales to the central coast Tuesday morning.
Strong winds will continue to batter portions of West Vancouver Island and the Central Coast throughout Tuesday, Christmas Eve.
The respite from rain on Tuesday morning will be brief, with a new storm set to usher in early Christmas morning.
On Christmas Day, a powerful frontal system will arrive on the South Coast and Vancouver Island, bringing very strong winds and heavy rain throughout the region, Environment Canada said.
Early in the morning on Thursday, Boxing Day, a low pressure system is forecast to make its way to southern Vancouver Island, bringing another drenching and further strong winds.
Despite the bleak weather temperatures are set to remain unseasonably mild, with Christmas Day forecast for highs of 7 degrees. On Boxing Day, the mercury will linger around the 8 degrees mark.
Environment Canada hasn’t yet noted when the series of storms will cease, only that weather warnings will be issued if necessary as “confidence in the storm tracks” and the impacts of it grows.
