Pulmera Expands CBeam™ 3D Imaging Platform into Foot and Ankle Surgery

Pulmera, a medical technology company advancing intraoperative imaging, today announced the expansion of its FDA-cleared CBeam™ 3D Imaging Platform into foot and ankle surgery following its initial use at OrthoCarolina in four cases performed by Kent Ellington, MD, FAAOS, Medical Director of the Foot and Ankle Institute at OrthoCarolina. The cases included two primary total ankle replacements, a revision total ankle replacement and a cavus foot reconstruction. Across the procedures, CBeam provided 3D visualization to support intraoperative assessment of deformity correction and implant positioning, as well as postoperative evaluation.

Charlotte, NC, Aug. 19, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Pulmera, a medical technology company advancing intraoperative imaging, today announced the expansion of its FDA-cleared CBeam™ 3D Imaging Platform into foot and ankle surgery following its initial use at OrthoCarolina in four cases performed by Kent Ellington, MD, FAAOS, Medical Director of the Foot and Ankle Institute at OrthoCarolina.

The cases included two primary total ankle replacements, a revision total ankle replacement and a cavus foot reconstruction. Across the procedures, CBeam provided 3D visualization to support intraoperative assessment of deformity correction and implant positioning, as well as postoperative evaluation. The range of cases represents CBeam’s first application across both joint replacement and complex reconstructive foot and ankle procedures.

CBeam is designed to transform conventional 2D surgical C-arms into intraoperative 3D imaging systems, helping surgical teams visualize complex anatomy during procedures while enabling hospitals to expand access using imaging infrastructure they already own. The platform uses a position-sensor-based system that attaches to widely installed surgical C-arms. During a brief rotational scan, CBeam captures a series of X-ray images and reconstructs them into a 3D dataset, enabling intraoperative visualization to support clinical evaluation, navigation and surgical decision-making.

“In complex foot and ankle surgery, the ability to evaluate anatomy in three dimensions can provide important information about alignment, correction and implant position before the procedure is complete,” said Dr. Ellington. “CBeam allowed us to obtain 3D imaging using the C-arm workflow already familiar to our operating room team, adding another level of visualization to support intraoperative assessment across these different procedures.”
