New York Academy of Medicine’s 2025 Impact Report

New York City, Sept. 01, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — New York, NY (September 1, 2026): New York Academy of Medicine’s newly released 2025 Impact Report highlights a year of research, convenings, and actions that reached communities across New York City and beyond. The report explores New York Academy of Medicine’s vision for the ‘Next Century of Health.’ The vision focuses how cities like New York can serve as laboratories for new health approaches. This includes equity, climate resilience, healthy aging, technology, and community well-being.

Highlights from the report include:

  • Advancing evidence-based work on climate resilience, maternal health, artificial ingelligence, healthy aging, and health equity.
  • Inducing a record class of new Fellows, expanding New York Academy of Medicine’s multidisciplinary network to nearly 2,000 leaders in population health, academia, and medicine.
  • Convening more than 35,000 attendees through conferences, community discussions, cultural programs, and major events.

President and CEO Ann Kurth, PhD, CNM, MPH, said that New York Academy of Medicine “equipped our communities and partners with practical information in an environment where health and science were under constant stress.”

“In many ways, 2025 was a challenging year for us and the broader medical field,” Dr. Kurth explained. “Huge cuts in federal funding created a chilling effect across institutions, which threatened peer-reviewed research that drives American health progress. We have also witnessed the resurgence of diseases we thought were behind us, including malaria and whooping cough.

Thanks to our committed staff, board, and fellows, we still accomplished meaningful, grounded work. We advocated for tangible health solutions to the ongoing climate crisis because we know that hundreds of New Yorkers died due to heat-related causes in 2025. Our Center for Evaluation & Applied Research led a community needs assessment to address inequities and barriers to access so that future investment can help more people. These are just two examples of what our generous supporters helped us accomplish in an environment of medical misinformation.”

The impact report reflects on 2025, but also looking ahead to a future of action. We earned the highest marks of transparency from two nonprofit auditors, demonstrating a commitment to accountability and stewardship. Across initiatives, New York Academy of Medicine works to translate evidence into action and advance healthier, longer lives for all.
