The Town of Shediac, N.B., is proposing a bylaw that would limit the number of cats and dogs in homes.
According to Bylaw 24-18, the proposal would not allow people to have more than two cats or two dogs in a household without a valid permit.
The bylaw would also require dog owners to register their pets on or before Jan. 31 every year. The annual fee for a dog tag would be $20 and the replacement fee would be $5.
Under the proposal, no one would be able to keep a snake or other reptile in a public place without a secure container.
A third reading to pass the bylaw will be held at the Shediac Town Hall on Dec. 16.
