Two men from Saskatchewan have been charged after another man had to leap from a moving vehicle during an attempted robbery.
According to Winnipeg police, officers were contacted by someone saying they saw a man jump from a moving vehicle that drove away.
The victim, a man in his 40s, was interviewed by police. He said he arranged to meet with a man to sell an expensive pair of shoes.
When he arrived, the victim entered the man’s car to complete the sale, but another man was hiding in the backseat, pulled a gun on the victim, and the car sped away.
“As the vehicle accelerated, the victim managed to escape by jumping out of the moving car. The shoes also fell from the vehicle during his escape,” police said in a news release.
The victim suffered minor injuries but declined medical attention, police said.
A description of the vehicle, which had a Saskatchewan license plate, was provided to RCMP.
RCMP were able to find the vehicle near Whitewood, Sask., and two men were taken into custody. They were transferred back to Winnipeg on Jan. 2.
The suspects, two 20-year-old men from Saskatoon, have been charged with armed robbery with a firearm and forcible confinement. They were detained in custody.
