New Light-Adaptive Safety Glasses

Featuring photochromic AEGIR & SIXTEN models

St. Paul, MN, Aug. 27, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Every day, an estimated 2,000 U.S. workers suffer job-related eye injuries requiring medical treatment. While many of those injuries are preventable with proper eye protection, PPE can only do its job when workers keep it on.

Easier said than done.

On countless jobsites, workers move between bright sunlight, deep shade, warehouses, loading docks and other indoor/outdoor workspaces. The result? Constantly swapping between clear and tinted safety glasses or simply removing eye protection completely because the lenses no longer match the environment.

To help eliminate that common blind spot in compliance, Ergodyne is introducing photochromic (light-adaptive) lens options for two of its most popular safety glasses. By automatically adjusting to changing UV conditions, these new lenses allow workers to put on safety glasses at the beginning of their shift and keep them on all day, even as confitions change.

Available on the best-selling AEGIR and SIXTEN models, the new photochromic lenses transition from clear toward dark in as little as 10 seconds, reaching their full tint in approximately one minute. When workers return indoors, the lenses begin clearing immediately and transition back toward clear in roughly three minutes, allowing protection to remain in place without disrupting the task at hand.

“We spend a lot of time talking about impact ratings, anti-fog coatings and optical clarity, because those things matter,” said Ergodyne Product Manager Justin Schuetz. “But none of it matters if workers won’t keep their safety glasses on. That’s the root problem. And that’s what these new lenses are looking to address.”
