Blaise Shafer, LCSW

Lead Clinician for Desert Hope’s First Responders Program

LAS VEGAS, Sept. 16, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Desert Hope Treatment Center has named Blaise Schafer, LCSW, lead clinician for its new First Responders Program at its residential treatment facility in Las Vegas. The specialized program is designed to address the unique behavioral health needs of firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical personnel, dispatchers, correctional officers, and other public safety professionals.

Repeated exposure to traumatic events and high-stress work environments can increase the risk of anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), burnout, and substance use among first responders. The program gives patients an opportunity to address those challenges alongside peers who understand the demands of public safety work.

“One of the most important things we can do is create an environment where first responders do not feel like they have to explain or defend what they have experienced,” Schafer said. “When someone feels understood, it becomes easier to engage in treatment, build trust, and begin doing the work of recovery.”

Schafer currently serves patients at the Las Vegas rehab’s outpatient location and will expand his role to lead the specialized treatment program for first responders. He will guide the treatment approach and work with the clinical team to help ensure participants receive care that reflects their experiences and needs.

A Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor with more than 10 years of experience, Schafer has worked in residential and outpatient treatment settings with individuals and families facing substance use, mental health concerns, trauma, homelessness and involvement with the justice system. His experience includes assessments, individual and group counseling, treatment planning and relapse prevention.

Schafer is currently pursuing a Doctor of Social Work degree and is a member of the National Association for Addiction Professionals.

“Blaise brings the clinical experience and compassion we were looking for to lead this program,” said Ari Chelli, LCSW, LCADC-S, MBA, interim executive director of Desert Hope Treatment Center. “He understands the importance of building trust and meeting people where they are. We believe he is the right person to help us provide first responders with the specialized care and support they deserve.”
