Gartner predicts that by 2031, 70% of large enterprises will make the archive, rather than production applications, the primary home for historical data, up from 40% in 2026. That shift requires archives to do more than support retention and lookup. Historical data must be accessible, governed, and usable for analytics, AI, and other enterprise priorities.
