Police in Cape Breton are asking for the public’s help in finding the remains of a missing man they believe was murdered. Kenneth “Justin” MacDonald, 34, was last seen on surveillance footage at the Irving gas station on Commercial Street in North Sydney, N.S., on July 7, 2024. He was reported missing the next day. Investigators found his vehicle, a blue Kia Forte, roughly 25 kilometers away in the Ormand Crescent area of Mira Road on July 10. More than 80,000 people in Ontario were homeless last year, a new report from the province’s municipalities shows, in what is the clearest picture of the issue to date. And nearly half of those people have lived either in shelters or on the streets for more than six months, or experienced recurrent homelessness over the past three years, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario found in its report examining the human and financial cost of the province’s homelessness crisis. A Montreal man has been sentenced to 40 months in prison by a United States federal court for running a scheme to illegally export millions of dollars’ worth of electronic components to Russia for military use. Nikolay Goltsev, 38, used two companies in Brooklyn, N.Y., to purchase electronics from U.S. manufacturers and send them to companies in Russia that are under sanction by the U.S. government. Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Advanced Education says 415 T4A tax slips were mistakenly sent to wrong addresses after errors with an electronic spreadsheet in February last year. The ministry reported the incident to the office of the Saskatchewan Information and Privacy Commissioner in May which then released an investigation report on Dec. 16. According to the privacy commissioners final report, the incident affected 277 people, with some due to receive more than one T4A document. A Manitoba researcher was part of a historic research team that uncovered the oldest ice core ever retrieved. Dorthe Dahl-Jensen, a researcher from the University of Manitoba, was part of a team that successfully drilled into an ice core 2,800 metres in length, and uncovered the oldest ice core ever retrieved – more than 1.2 million years old.
