Irvine, CA, Sept. 02, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Troutman Amin, LLP is a premier defense firm offering CIPA defense and counseling

Troutman Amin, LLP is once again on the forefront of critical legal developments– this time with a breakdown of California’s SB690 which is set to dismantle the California Invasion of Privacy Act’s “trap and trace” and “pen register” provisions.

In a new video–available exclusively in the firm’s popular YouTube channel (@DeserveToWin)– firm partners Eric J. Troutman and Puja J. Amin breakdown the impact of SB690 and its limitation of frivolous claims brought claiming regular website recording technology triggers CIPA’s $5,000.00 penalties.

Troutman Amin, LLP–which is credited with successfully handling hundreds of CIPA claims and demands–ranks among the most experienced CIPA defense and counseling firms in the nation. Its lawyers also run CIPAWorld.com– a website that breaks down CIPA developments on a daily basis to assure readers are fully informed of the most recent developments in this dangerous and growing legal field.

“CIPA is one of the most dangerous laws on the books anywhere in the nation.” Firm founder Puja J. Amin says of the law. “With $5,000.00 penalties on the line– and class action lawsuits enabled for even tiny infractions– businesses must take note and truly understand the law to avoid potentially existential liability.”

Although the law is on the books in California, CIPA applies to businesses nationwide provided they offer a website available to California consumers.

“What makes this law truly terrifying is that it applies to businesses all across the nation–even those that have no employees or operations in California.” Partner Eric J. Troutman says of the law. “If you have a website that is accessible to consumers in California you must comply with CIPA or face horrible lawsuits that really can cause millions in damages.”

In the Troutman Amin, LLP’s new video the firm explains how SB690 is set to limit a major component of CIPA– and may even apply retroactively to claims that have already been filed.

“If you are facing one of these frivolous CIPA claims asserting you used a ‘pen register’ or ‘trap and trace’ device you may now have a strong defense–even if the suit was filed before the law was passed.” Says Amin. “SB690 was specifically designed to reach backward in time and knock out claims that were already on file.”

Still, while certain CIPA claims are set to be terminated by the new bill other claims have become stronger says Troutman.

“Unfortunately SB690 did not go far enough and other portions of the CIPA are still viable and stronger than ever.” Troutman says. “We expect the Plaintiff’s bar will simply shift gears and file a new wave of aggressive pixel and web session recording CIPA suits. And if you’re using GenAI for training or chatbot communication purposes you may be in very serious trouble. Reach out to Troutman Amin, LLP for a consultation ASAP.”

Troutman Amin, LLP associate Oliver Shapiro also joins the video breakdown which can be found at: https://youtu.be/mvpBYt-as0k
